Ready to Start the Semester?
Welcome to Leadership Academy of Colorado (LACO)! We’re so glad you’re here! We want your student to have a smooth start, so we’ve created the pre-start checklist to help you work through any potential glitches before they start their coursework. Please thoroughly complete each task listed.
Pre-Start Checklist

1. Register for Courses
If you haven't already, submit an enrollment application in SIS. Once approved, you'll be able to register for courses.
To register, log into SIS using your parent account. Under your student's name, click "Registration." Select your student's courses according to the guidelines on the middle school or high school program pages.
Please note:
- Times listed for classes are in Mountain Time.
- If you need to change your student's courses/schedule, use the “Drop/Switch” feature in SIS. After you have submitted your drop/switch request, an academic advisor will review the request and either approve or deny it. If your request is denied, an explanation will be provided. Please email counseling@lacolorado.org if you have questions.
- SIS is where you can check your student's schedule, grades, and pacing and also communicate with mentors.

2. Perform a Tech Check
Go to the Books, Computer & Support page and:
- Read the information under “Technology Tools” together. Be sure your student has a working computer with the required software programs. Remember, LACO provides a computer with a webcam and microphone to all full-time students.
- Read the information under “Technology Systems” with your student to become familiar with our systems and learn what to do should technical issues arise.

3. Gather Books & Materials
At LACO, parents are responsible for ordering all required student books and materials for online classes.
- We've partnered with Amazon to provide easy ordering for families. Follow the steps on our Ordering Books via Amazon page to order your student's books and required materials.

4. Log into Canvas
Before classes begin, help your student log into Canvas. Canvas is the Learning Management System (LMS) where all course syllabi and class assignments are found. Fall 2022 courses will be available to view in Canvas on August 9th, but not before. That week, please do the following:
- Parents of New Students: If your child hasn't already created an SIS login, they will need to do so. They should have received an invite during the application process, so please have them check their inbox. Once they have an SIS login and you have registered them for classes, our system will automatically generate a Canvas account for them. On the course publish date, students will be notified to login to their new Canvas account. Your child's Canvas username and password will be the same as the login they created for SIS.
- All Students should log into Canvas, bookmark the Canvas login link, then customize their course menu when courses become available in Canvas.

5. Complete New Parent & Student Orientation
- Our live-online orientation will be on January 5 from 4:00 PM-5:00 PM MT. Join us as we welcome new families, meet our LACO Team, and kick off Winter semester! You will receive a link via email to join the orientation in Zoom. If you have any questions, please call us at 800-200-6869.
- If you miss orientation, please log into Canvas to view the recording in Homeroom.

6. Plan for First Week of School
- Students should log into Canvas and begin orientation assignments when courses open for the semester. See the Academic Calendar for semester start dates!
